Post Thanksgiving Update

Posted under Personal

I’m back in Louisville. Things are looking real nice, a forecast of mid-thirties with rain and snow tonight, and finals Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday this week.

Thanksgiving at the Jarrett’s was awesome. I think it was the most solid Thanksgiving food line-up ever.

Laura was really surprised to see me Tuesday morning. I drove from 10:30pm to 9:30am to get to Jacksonville and it was so worth it. It was so great spending time with her. I’m not going to lie though I cannot wait to get back down there again for Christmas break.

I had to leave the Blazer in FL. My dad got a bunch of stuff fixed on it while I was down for the break but apparently the guys at the shop missed a little something. So just to be safe and get it done right my dad kept it so they could fix it right. We (me, Rayford, and Becca) drove hot momma (my mom’s car) back. I slept the whole way back, it was great.

Rayford and Becca are engaged. They are going to beat Laura and I to the punch and get married May 23, 2009. Congrats Rayford and Becca.

Fact

Posted under Fact, Myth

The countdown has been off on purpose.

Myth: Laura is driving down to Winter Haven on Wednesday after class lets out where I will be waiting to snatch her up in my arms.

Fact: I’m already driving to Jacksonville. I will be there sometime Tuesday between 11:00am and 1:00pm. She will not know until she reads this or sees me at her door.

Either one will be fine with me, if she sees this then she will be waiting in anticipation, if she doesn’t see this then I get to surprise her!

I love you Laura Brocco and I can’t wait to see your apartment.

I’m running dangerously low on fuel. Finals are looking pretty tough at the moment and I have no motivation in the tank right now.

It will be good to see Laura and my family to refuel for finals week.

Hopefully there’s more where that came from, if its going to be cold it might as well snow, a lot.

Quantum of Solace

Posted under Movie Review

Movie: See title

Date Released: November 14, 2008

Date Viewed: November 14, 2008

Theater: Stoneybrook Cinema Deluxe 16: Director’s Theater #14. Leather reclining seats with cup holder and foldable arms and they take your order 15 minutes before the show.

Review: 3 stars

Pros: Action, least sleaze in a Bond movie in a long time (only one girl and a really short scene), Camera work, great movie, but just a decent Bond movie do you know what I mean?

Cons: Character flaws in Bond (no, “the names Bond, James Bond” and no, “Vodka martini…shaken not stirred”), no Q, no Money Penny, no gadgets, no nifty watch, and no plot to take over the world or kill a bunch of people.Recommendation: Of course you should go see it. I’m thinking they are, for the first time, making the movies as sequels, in stead of one-offs. I think they are doing this to introduce Bond to younger generation, developing his character. In the past James Bond is just James Bond in every movie, he is smooth and charming and amazingly cunning. In this movie he is a little rash and blunt. I think the next movie will have him back to the Bond we know.

Conclusion: If the next movie continues along the same plot then I will be pleased. If he continues to track down this vast “organization” and the gadgets come back, which means Q obviously, and Money Penny, and Vodka martinis shaking not stirred, among other things then I will greatly appreciate what they’re doing with this one, but if they don’t then I will be disappointed with this one and the next one. I hope we get James Bond back.

Addition

Posted under Personal, Root Beer

I’ve added another one to the growing collection. I feel as if I am truly becoming a root beer connoisseur. I don’t have an exact count yet, but I am fairly certain the one I’m drinking right now puts me dangerously close to the 80 mark if not at, or over, it. It’s a fun hobby. It makes traveling especially fun, because you never know what kind of root beer you might run it to. Bundaberg Australian Root Beer is the newest addition.

I’ve gotten new wind in my sails about this root beer thing because Laura says she really likes doing it with me! There’s just something about having your girl on board with you.

The End is in Sight

Posted under Personal, School

Well I’m not sure yet, but I think I have survived my first semester of Seminary, or at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I have turned in the bulk of my papers and read most of the books. Finals are the week after Thanksgiving and they are going to be challenging.

I finished some book reviews yesterday, the morning really, at 2:00am. After that I had a chapter to read for my 7am class. After that I was just getting into bed when Rayford said from the bathroom, “you won’t go rent a movie”. Feeling pretty awake, it was now 2:50am, I said, “I’m game”. We left ten minutes later and drove a couple minutes down to the Redbox outside McDonalds only to be disappointed that they didn’t have the movie we desired, Get Smart. So we turned around headed five minutes south to the McDonlads equally distant from our apartment in the opposite direction, which was the one Rayford suggested we go to first. Got home at 3:20am, popped in Get Smart, laughed, cause it was funny, and then went to sleep at 5:20am. Did I mention I, Rayford and John Micael too, have a 7am class that we get up at 6:05am normally. Me and the Rayford held-up pretty good today considering 50min. of sleep.

The only reason we were able to do that last night/this morning is because the end is in sight. Thank you Lord!

Fact

The strawberry lemonade at Smokey Bones is the nectar of the gods.

It is seriously the best drink I’ve ever had. Sugary sweet strawberry lemonade. There is no bad or weird aftertaste. It’s not too sweet so it doesn’t wear you out too quickly. Believe me, me and John Michael can drink loads of it. Its hard to keep a glass full for more than a minute.

Rayford works at Smokey Bones and every once in a while he brings home goodies: baby-back ribs, brunswick stew, pulled-pork, and strawberry lemonade, among other things, but those are the basics. It started with a Smokey Bones to-go cup full of strawberry lemonade about once a week. Rayford’s roommates (me and John Michael) started to notice how much they missed it when it was gone so they asked the Rayford to bring it home every chance he got. He started bringing home the to-go cups more often, matter of fact it got to the point where we were extremely disappointed if he didn’t bring one home after a good night’s work.

About a week ago the Rayford rocked my world. He brought home a gallon of strawberry lemonade. A whole flippin’ gallon! It was awesome, the best thing to ever come forth from Smokey Bones. Since then there has been another gallon and a few to-go cups demolished and it has been beverage heaven in our fridge.

Thanks Rayford!

Fact: I highly recommend you try some strawberry lemonade from Smokey Bones asap.

Lazy Sunday. . .

Posted under Personal

I woke up just before noon.

Yeah I didn’t go to church today (Mom I know you wouldn’t be proud) I was just really tired. I worked until 12:30am last night, it was a long night. It was the slowest weekend night I have worked so far. I developed a pounding headache with about four hours to go. I think it was the temperature changes, inside around the oven it was like 100 degrees, and outside to my car it was like 40 degrees. Rayford tried to get me up but I just wasn’t budging this morning. While he was in the shower I made the decision to sleep in.

It was a good decision. I woke up around 11am and took a shower, read the bible, did some journaling, and jumped on some homework due next week. I also ate and did the dishes. It was a good productive morning.

Tonight its on to small group at Glenn and Amy’s, which should also be good. We are doing an interesting study on the Church.

Intramural Update

Posted under Personal, Sports

Game 3 Monday night.

We won the first game last Monday. It was a good game. I did well, but could have done better.

Game 2, not so much luck. It was 41-41 with 17 seconds left. Glenn had the ball and was killing the time off the clock. 5 seconds. Glenn started to drive. 4 seconds. He ran into a wall of defenders with defensive position. 3 seconds. Glenn kicked the ball out to me. 2 seconds. I had a wide open shot from about 12ft. 1 second. I took the shot. It was perfectly on line and about two inches to far. It hit the rim and bounced off. The game went to OT and we lost by 5. I blew it for my team. Nothing worse than having the game rest in the fate of your shot and bricking it.

Oh well, we have a chance to win Monday night and go to the Championship Game. Wish me luck!

Good Try John….A New Low

Posted under Personal, Politics

Well the nation has spoken. We have a new president, a historic president. I hope he can keep his promise and help our nation change for the better. I know many republicans (Christians especially) fear Obama presidency, but the reality is that we are not to trust in the governments of this world. And you never know what the future holds, our nation might benefit from his presidency.

“He (God) alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2

Okay now that that’s over with…I saw something today that I thought I would never see again…a gas price that starts with a 1. I saw gas for a 1.93 tonight. I was shocked and thought my eyes were playing a mean trick on me. Nope its legit, a buck ninety three! Obama’s been president for a couple of hours and look at all the change, okay…….no more Obama jokes.

Get the title now? A new low. Pun. Okay……that was another bad joke….but its a joke.

What’s the lowest gas price in your area?

Fact

I am lazy.

I got my absentee ballot a week or two ago. About a week ago I filled it out and thus put my vote in. Not exactly. I still haven’t mailed it and I’m pretty sure it is supposed to be in FL already. I let that envelope sit on my desk for a full week and never bothered to get stamps and mail it. I am so lazy.

I apologize America for not doing my civic duty and voting. I’m going to be the one vote that would have kept Obama from being president. Well if it comes down to one vote from Polk county then I deem myself fully responsible.

My bad.
